    The Strike is Over!!!

  I
t
came as no surprise to the members of Local 1433 and Local 1249 that they would have to strike to get Stanley Works of New Britain to listen to their concerns as they overwhelmingly rejected the Company’s final offer.
Just a few months ago this same company tried to relocate their corporate headquarters to Bermuda to avoid paying taxes to the United States thru a loophole in the tax laws but were stopped by the same force they face now.
Job security was the #1 concern as Stanley continues to move its products out of the United States in search of huge profits at the cost of its American Workers.

In an effort to protect the work force, made up of mostly long time employees, the negotiating team focused on job security, subcontracting, and severance.
But after a month and a half  of debate it became obvious that Stanley did not want to address any of these issues.
This is the first strike at Stanley Works since 1968, and at that time there were more than 5000 hourly workers employed there.
Most of the senior employees have seen Stanley Works change from a company that would brag in their commercials about its New Britain heritage, to a rootless corporate entity.

After careful consideration of all the facts presented on Sunday, May 11th 2003 the Machinists at Stanley stood strong and voted Overwhelmingly  to reject the company's final offer.
